Rice & Peas is a periodic collectable zine that I produce exploring various facets of Jamaican life and style. This little zine packs a massive punch bursting through the seams with interesting info, interviews and artwork that reflects what I'm upto in the studio at the moment.
Issue 5 boasts a brief history of Dancehall Queen Competition in my home town of Montego Bay, Jamaica; A style guide for aspiring Dancehall Kings and a pictorial rundown of the 2015 Australian Dancehall King & Queen Competition. Plus a few interviews with - the enterprising Melbourne based duo, Cat Pwiti and Sofi Fyah, creators of the True Jamaican Dancehall Camp & Australian Dancehall King & Queen Competition; Sydney legend Maya Martinez, a driving force behind world dance here in Sydney and last but not least Jamaican artist Andre Woolery who has been working on an amazing series of oil paintings capturing current dancehall fashion on the island.
And don’t forget to listen to the amazing soundtrack provided by DJ Golden out of NYC. It’s sure to get you warmed up as the cold winter days approach.
